Tara Corey
Tara Corey

I first photographed Tara Corey when my studio sponsored her roller derby team. She was already the kind of person who owned a room without trying.
That was years ago. She skated with the Nickel City Knockouts (still the best team name in Buffalo derby history, fight me) and has since built a successful business in the spa and beauty space. She's been a client and a friend ever since. Earlier this year, she came back for new brand portraits, images that didn't just look like her, but actually felt like her. Her energy, her personality, the way she carries herself.

We shot primarily on camera flash, partly because it suited the aesthetic, and partly because it was the only way to keep up with her. Tara does not stop moving.
Some projects just feel fun. We put on some music, Tara brought a party like she always does, and at one point, she blindsided my assistant Josh with a surprise pillow fight. (He did not see it coming. He also did not win.)
Good people. Good images. That's the best kind of day on set.
